A Jean Nouvel’s design, gigantic blue composite membrane façade, enclosing 26,000m2 concert complex called Copenhagen Concert Hall opened in January 2009.

From the exterior, the cubical structure reflects different aesthetic under daylight and night time. During daytime, the envelope of the building seems to be semi-transparent. At night, the composite membrane façade serves as a giant screen for projection video montages. This is the feature of perforated façade. The composite membrane façade material used in this project is Stamisol® FT 381 manufactured by Serge Ferrari.

A composite membrane façade system improves the sustainability of a building. During daytime, it able to diffuse sunlight into glow. As a result, the heat transfer into the building through sun radiation can be reduced.  Consequently the energy consumption for air conditioning system of the building is significantly reduced.

Apart from that, the diffusion of sunlight also offers a better working and living conditions. Composite membrane façade is an ideal material for external envelope of building as it insulates heat transfer into the building by limiting the radiation yet it still allows a reasonable amount of natural light to brighten the interior of building.


Incorporating energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainable green design features into all buildings has become a top priority in recent years.

The first question most people have when talk about green building is how much it is going to cost. The benefits of green building are not always best measured in dollars and cents at the early stage of the construction.

As a building material, composite membrane façade is relatively lighter than the other traditional cladding such as glass, metal, as well as aluminium. The necessity of stronger supporting structures is less if the composite membrane façade is used as cladding material.

Over the past few years, Multimedia Engineering R&D team has worked closely on fabric façade system. Our intention is to create a smart fabric façade system to reduce environmental impact yet ensure comfort of the occupant. Meanwhile, the fabric façade system offers other benefits such as cost-effective, low maintenance costs, 3D effect, different colors combination façade, natural ventilation, thermal and acoustic insulation.
