Multimedia Engineering Pte Ltd is a specialist consultant that provides one-stop solutions for lightweight, long-span structures. With over 30 years in the market, we have developed a wide range of products under our ADAS® trademark, such as ADAS® ETFE SkylightADAS® Tensile Membrane, ADAS® Fabric Façade, and ADAS® Greenhouse, which utilise ETFE film and tensile fabrics.

These materials all have a few characteristics in common: they are super lightweight, flexible, durable, and require low maintenance due to their inert non-stick surfaces. In this article, we shall provide a brief overview of our material selection for a better understanding of our product range.

ADAS® ETFE Skylight

ETFE Film

The demand for ETFE structures by our clients has been steadily rising, due a growing interest in the material worldwide as a lightweight alternative to glass. Currently, ADAS® ETFE Skylight structures can utilise transparent ETFE film in various forms and combinations, ranging from single layer to air-inflated cushions consisting of several layers. The lifespan of ETFE films can easily reach 30 years.

ETFE film comes in a range of thicknesses, colours, and prints, with custom prints available as well upon request. For ADAS® Greenhouse, we use specially treated 100 μm ETFE films to enable high levels of solar and UV penetration (over 90%) without long-term degradation.

The main categories for ETFE include: Clear (transparent), Matte (diffuse), Coloured and Fritted (printed).

ADAS® Tensile Membrane

Tensile membranes are versatile for use in a wide variety of applications as both roof and façade cladding and stand-alone canopies. These fabrics have excellent tensile strength and offer shading control with varying levels of translucency while being impermeable to water. The commonly used materials under ADAS® Tensile Membrane include:

PTFE-coated glass fiber fabric

PTFE (Teflon)-coated glass fiber fabrics have a life expectancy of 25-30 years, and have a fire rating class of ‘0’. The material is incombustible and resists temperatures more than 260°C without loss in strength. The white fabric also maintains its clean and bright appearance due to active bleaching under UV light.

Tenara (Pure Teflon)

Also known as premium PTFE, Tenara fabrics offer one of the highest quality solutions in terms of strength and durability. They have a life expectancy of more than 30 years, and a fire rating of class ‘0’.

PVDF-coated PVC fabric

PVDF coatings reduce staining compared to standard materials with only an acrylic coating, resulting in a life span of 15-20 years. These materials can come in a wide variety of prints and colours, and so are highly customisable.

ADAS® Tensile Mesh

ADAS® Tensile Mesh materials can be used in canopy structures to increase thermal comfort, or as breatheable fabric facades. They are also highly effective in cutting glare to improve the visual quality of each space.

These mesh fabrics have a glass fiber base, with both sides coated in PTFE (Teflon). They have a fire rating of class ‘0’, and come with a range of perforation levels to control glare, heat absorption, and breathability. This is the most durable option due to the nature of the coating and fabric strength.

Although PTFE mesh fabrics are not produced with many colours, they are able to capture and emit the glow of lighting effects to produce attractive facades and canopies at night.

PVC mesh fabrics are highly popular due to their diversity of colours and perforation levels, or openness factors (OF). They are made with PES yarn, with both sides coated in PVDF, meaning they can also be printed with graphics according to client requirements.

To create a complete solution, these materials are integrated with our structural systems such as ADAS® Structural Steel, ADAS® TensiNet System and ADAS® Spaceframe, along with the ADAS® Prisca Retractable System.
